11 MW Solar Panels Array From Portugal, Solar Water Heater From Florida

February 13th, 2009

We would like to update you about 2 additional solar energy systems added to ThetaNoon, the solar energy systems directory – an 11 Megawatt solar panels from Portugal, one of the largest active solar arrays in Europe, and a home solar water heater from Ocoee, Florida.

Solar Panels Array, Serpa, Portugal

One of the largest solar plants in Europe, it was completed in early 2007. It uses a PowerLight’s PowerTracker tracking system to make sure efficiency is optimal. the plant was designed to power 8,000 homes!

4.7KW Solar Panels In New York, Only 7 Years ROI

February 9th, 2009

One of the most interesting solar panels systems in the ThetaNoon directory is a 4.7KW system located in Guilderland, N.Y. As we explained in our last post, solar panels systems are quickly becoming a viable financial investment. The Guilderland system is a great example of how, due to lower manufacturing costs and better incentive programs, solar energy can make sense, with an ROI period of 7-10 years.

The system owner describes his investment process:

“We have 26 Kyocera 180W solar panels (4680W rated max) and a Fronius IG-4000 inverter. The system is net-metered. We qualified for a NY state incentive program that paid for 50% of the total system up front, Read more…

Solar Water Heater And Solar Tower Added To ThetaNoon

February 6th, 2009

We would like to share with information on 2 more solar energy systems that were added to our  ever growing directory – ThetaNoon.

The two systems are definitely extremes as far as solar technology goes – one is a solar water heater, the most basic, simple, widely used solar technology, while the other is a huge, impressive and expansive concentrating solar tower, located in Seville, Spain.

Even in e place so far from the equator (where solar radiation is the strongest), installing a solar water heater makes sense. Andy, who installed the systems, told us:

This unit is plumbed in to a dual coil hot water cylinder, the other coil being fed from a natural gas boiler (that also does the central heating). Basically, if the solar doesn’t provide enough hot water to satisfy the controller by 5pm (at this time of year, winter) the gas system tops it up…From the docs, it’s a 30 tube solar water unit, rated at 2kwh.Manufacturer of the controller is Resol, of the tubes are Apricus solar…In Ireland, you have to chose a system from a particular list to get a government grant, which helps limit the choice, and it has to be installed by a registered installer too”.

Concentrating Solar Tower, Seville, Spain

One of the most impressive solar energy systems I have ever seen. A huge tower, with over 600 mirrors concentrating sunlight into the tower, generating electricity from the steam created by the heat. This PS10 model generates 11 Megawatts of electricity at peak capacity.

4 More Solar Panels Systems Added To ThetaNoon

February 2nd, 2009

We are constantly working on growing the list of solar energy systems in our database. In the past couple of days, we added 4 new systems – P.V. systems, as well as concentrating solar technology from the worlds’ largest solar energy plant in the world!

Solar panels and concentrating solar systems added:

  • A residential 1.4KW solar panels array located in an Francisco , California.
  • A commericla 18KW solar panels system near Jerusalem, Israel.
  • Two of the largest solar energy plants in the world, located in the Mojave desert in California. The total output of these two systems is almost 200MW!!

All electrical output statistics, valuable information and images of these systems can be found in our TetaNoon directory.

If you are interested in increasing awareness to solar energy, we encourage you to use our Facebook application, I-SEA. Read more about it here.

Solar Panel And Solar Water Heater Added To ThetaNoon

September 11th, 2008

We are glad to announce that two new solar systems have been added to ThetaNoon – one is a PV system, the other – a home made solar water heating system.

USNY06003 – Solar Panel

This system includes 26 Kyocera 180W panels (a total of 4680W max output), located in the Albany, New York area.

USIL0882 – Solar Water Heater

A really cool home made solar wather heater system, with a 2 55 gallon barrels and a total of 120ft copper tubing, provides a wealth of hot water during summer. System located in near Champaign, Illinion.
